patents bring billions in profits |

The State Intellectual Property Office of China and the World
Intellectual Property Organization held the 13th China Patent
Awards Ceremony on Nov. 8 in Beijing.
On this ceremony, 15 Chinese patents and five Chinese designs
won gold medals, while 177 Chinese patents and 35 Chinese
designs won outstanding awards.
The ceremony awards the inventors, designers and patent holders
who have made outstanding contributions for technical innovation
and economic and social developments by using the Intellectual
Property Right System.
Starting from the day when the patents were brought into
practice to the end of 2010, the 15 items that won gold medals
for patents obtained a sales volume of 42.5 billion yuan,
with a profit of 5.6 billion yuan, and the five items that
won gold medals for design obtained a sales volume of 1.9
billion yuan, with a profit of 700 million yuan.
According to data, China's international patent applications
in 2010 increased by 56 percent, and China ranked fourth in
the world in terms of the number of international patents
it filed in 2010.
